Canadian designers Meredith Heron and Hal Eisen lead two teams of homeowners in a contest to replicate an expensive model room on a limited budget.

Design Match opens with a tour of the inspiration room created by top-name Canadian celebrity designers, such as Evelyn Eshun, Glen Peloso, and Margie Doyle White. The designer describes the features, style and vision of the room.

Each team is taken on a tour of the inspiration room with their respective designers, Meredith Heron and Hal Eisen. The teams return to their homes to start the renovation contest.

Rules of Design Match

The value of the model room is disclosed to the teams and they are required to renovate their rooms for no more than one-tenth of the cost. For example; a $50,000 room has to be copied for less than $5,000.

One piece of furniture from the inspiration room is given to each team for inclusion in their design. The winning team keeps the furniture piece as a prize.

At the end of the show, the designer visits both homes and decides which team has best captured the essence of his/her design vision.

The losing team is revealed when the designer’s assistants remove the piece of furniture on loan from the inspiration room. The winning team is revealed by the return visit of the designer.

Homeowners Creating Their Design Match

Hal Eisen and Meredith Heron help the homeowners with a design plan that captures the essence of the designer’s vision by utilizing the features in their own house. In addition to design, the team must find knock-off furniture and accessories in order to keep within the budget.

Viewers see the progression of the room renovation from start to finish, including painting, shopping, judging by the designer, and the announcement of winners and losers.

Even though there is a winner and loser on Design Match, both teams win by creating and keeping their lovely renovated rooms.
